Toshiba 55XS5 offers 4K north of $9k

Maybe you’re not sold on this whole “OLED” thing. Maybe you think 1080p on a 55-inch screen looks gross. Why not future proof yourself and jump straight to the next big thing? Toshiba will be releasing a 55-inch TV in Japan next month with a 4K resolution, even if the content isn’t quite with us yet. It’s not quite top of the line either, lacking 3D capabilities and useing edge-lit LEDs instead of the superior local dimming tech, but hey, it’s 4K.

Swedish retailer IKEA plans to launch a range of AV-integrated furniture later this year, delivering LED smart TVs, sound systems and Blu-ray in cable-tidied all-in-one systems. The media furniture, created in partnership with Chinese firm TCL, will be priced from around 6,500 Swedish kronor ($955), and be offered in three different designs; initially eight countries will get the kit from fall this year, before worldwide availability in spring 2013.

Apple is said to be prepping their OLED TV to launch sometime in April or latest by May 2012. The Apple OLED TV will come in a gorgeous and very thin body. The Apple OLED TV will employ OLED panels of various sizes up to 42 inches. If this is true, Apple will be ahead of Samsung and LG launching the largest OLED TV.
