With the 2012 MacBook Pro refresh on the horizon and all the buzz about the new MacBook Pro lineup supporting the new Ivy Bridge processors and having a slimmer design, reports are also indicating that Apple could switch back to NVIDIA for graphics on MacBook Pros this year.

NVIDIA has partnered with Intellectual Ventures in order to acquire roughly 500 patents owned by IPWireless. All the patents revolve around wireless technologies, including 3G, LTE, and LTE-Advanced. The acquisition closed on April 30th, but the terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. IPWireless will retain access to the patents royalty-free, with the portfolio split between NVIDIA and Intellectual Ventures.

NVIDIA has launched its latest graphics card, the GeForce GTX 690, with twin Kepler cores making it the world’s fastest, at least for the moment. The GPU company hasn’t wasted the opportunity to make the GeForce GTX 690 look the part, either, with superlatives galore: a trivalent chromium-plated aluminum frame, thixomolded magnesium alloy fan housing, and dual vapor chambers with a nickel-plated finstack.
