A Samsung official told a Korean newspaper the company has received a whopping nine million carrier pre-orders for its next flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy S III. The new phone, which is set to go on sale May 29 in Germany before releasing in other countries, is currently being manufactured at a South Korean facility.

Samsung’s shares took a massive hit when a Digitimes rumor claimed that Apple would be moving 50% of memory capacity to Elpida for DRAM memory chips. Samsung was reportedly set to announce its new 20nm DRAM chips on Monday, but has moved up the announcement to today in order to quell fears with investors and shareholders. Samsung denies the Digitimes rumor, saying that its chips will still be used in Apple products going forward.

Good news for those of you in the UK who simply can’t wait to get your grubby little mitts on the Samsung Galaxy S III. The phone will be made available an entire day early for those who pre-ordered the phone at Samsung’s Brand Store at the Westfield Stratford City shopping center. Phones will be made available from 6pm on the 29th, with everyone else having to wait on other retailers to launch the handset.

Samsung has expanded its list of devices that are set to receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. The list now includes several T-Mobile devices, including the Galaxy S Blaze 4G, Galaxy S II, Galaxy Tab 7.0, and the Galaxy Tab 10.1. However, when the upgrade will arrive for those devices have yet to be revealed, and the list will continually be altered as updates are confirmed or released.

The Galaxy S III has been revealed this week in London as Samsung’s next-level smartphone hero, and the prices are flooding in for UK carriers galore. Starting with Vodafone UK, this carrier gets the device on the 30th of this month (as opposed to the 29th as the rest of Europe will get the device) and will be getting an exclusive on the 32GB model of the device for the first month it’s out on the market. While the rest of Europe will be getting the device on the 29th, it seems that the entirety of the UK will have to wait just one more day.

The current crop of Ultrabooks certainly aren’t bad value for money, but they haven’t quite made the splash that Intel and partners were hoping for. Maybe that will change with the upcoming release of the mobile Ivy Bridge chipsets. Samsung has updated the listing for its Series 9 Ultrabook to show that an Ivy Bridge version is coming. They did leave out the crucial detail of when, though.

It seems that even the courts are getting sick of Apple and Samsung’s bickering over patent issues. Both companies have been ordered by a US judge to once again try and reduce the number of claims against each other by Monday. The trial is scheduled to start on July 30th, but the judge presiding over the case has ordered the two smartphone manufacturers to try and streamline the case before everything kicks off.
